Can you believe Kaydence is 4?

It's so hard to believe that my miracle baby is now 4 years old! It doesn't matter if you're having fun or not...time flies! As I sit here reflecting on 4 years of Kaydence Grace, I recall that 4 years ago she was only about 3 hours old at this moment and they were flying her out to Dallas. I will never forget the nurse bringing her to me in that delivery room, wrapped up like a burrito, already bagging her to be able to breathe, and I looked at her eyes and saw they were blue. She is the only one of my kids born with blue eyes, so that was really something to see! I looked in those blue eyes and kissed her head as she gave me the same glaring look she gives me now. Some may say it was the drugs they gave me, but I'll stand firm that the Peace of God washed over me that night and ever since. He has blessed us with this child over and over. My view of the world is so different. I appreciate small steps in her development each day. Her laughter fills my heart. Every day I look at her and I think to myself that this is what angels look like. How did I deserve such a blessing? How do I still?

I've said before that some days it is tough, but God always sends me a message to cool it. He has it all under control. Back when we first found out that things were not exactly perfect in my pregnancy with her, I flat out said in counsel with my pastor, that if she would be completely unable to do anything and be totally bed-ridden, that I prayed God would just take her home. I did not want that kind of life for her. Yes, I was completely in tears, and no, I don't talk about this point often, but I hold on to the hope from this answered prayer each day. He did not take her, therefore I hold onto that hope that she will be able to do lots of things. And she can! She can do so much more than any doctor believed she would ever do in the beginning! Every single day I see God's promises in her. She can currently walk with a walker (and she can really go fast as well as take off running and pull her self up like she is Supergirl!), she still randomly busts out with words (a couple of weeks ago she told her teachers, "Do it again!"), she can point to things you ask her about, she can communicate with pictures, and boy, can she love. She also likes sports in gyms thankfully. She can also yell at her sister and it shouldn't be funny, but it is. She also likes to ride the 4-wheeler with her daddy.

Kaydence Grace is not high on new textures. She only likes a few foods mostly because of texture. Her sensory processing is sensitive. She acts like she can chew, but seems to prefer food she doesn't have to work at. Swallowing, thankfully, is not an issue. She is a hoss at drinking from a straw. She can feed herself...when her overbearing mother is not feeding her to ensure she gets enough and because there is less mess. She loves piano music, but not so much her mother's singing or kind of music. Kaydence also loves her bathtime. She will play for an hour in the tub if you let her (her Nana created this habit.) Water is her favorite thing. Who knew she would love the beach so much? And why is she fair skinned, blue-eyed and blonde, but can still tan like a beach babe? (I admit I am slightly envious of her skin. She still has tan lines from the SUMMER!)

Quite possibly the coolest thing in year four, is that we have moved Kaydence into a big girl bed. She loves it. So far, she has not tested the waters with trying to escape it like she was trying to do with the crib. I took enormous pleasure in purchasing her a new bed and it is a gorgeous piece of furniture. Unfortunately, Abigail was a little jealous, but she's working on that. I was planning on doing some sewing on her bedding this weekend, but a nasty stomach virus hit both Kaydence and me. Due to this bug, we also did not have a birthday celebration, but we will make up for it later this week.

Last March, Kaydence began going to school a couple of half-days a week. This school year, she began three half-days. She loves school. I can talk about it and she smiles and laughs. The things her teachers are able to accomplish with her amazes me. They have her doing all kinds of things, and they love her so much. I am completely thankful for all of the people who help with her education. We are so blessed with a community that supports her and loves her.

Before I sign out tonight, I want to again share with you the Scripture that many have prayed over my daughter since before birth. As a matter of fact, right now I am wearing a T-shirt my students found at Buccee's of all places, with Psalms 91:4 on it. This Psalm is about protection, and very key in my beliefs. God is my refuge and my fortress. I hope He is yours too.

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”
Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.

Every Day with Jesus is Sweeter than the Day Before

Today started off okay, then went about as south as it can get, but ended up one of the best days EVER! I went home yesterday and boy, homecomings are sweet these days! It doesn't get much better than little arms being so excited to wrap around your neck. As I drove in to my parents' house, there was sweet little Abigail jumping and waving at me. Of course my mother had her out "helping" her in the yard. Then today I got to wake up with my kids. It used to be such a chore to get up in the mornings, and I have to admit that physically I am still very exhausted, but waking up to my kids is a blessed feeling each day now. I was even excited to go to Dr. Blackwell's office today. I carried him, his nurses, and Cheryl strawberries from the Berry Patch in Fairfield. My cousin owns it and I must say the berries are super sweet and awesome. Yes, this is a quick commercial for him! My day was made when Dr. Blackwell thanked me for the berries and I told him they were a t

Kaydence is turning 3!

I realize it's been forever since I've written here, but life is so busy! I felt the urge to write this, because, let's be honest, there is no way Facebook will let me post a status this long. Kaydence turns 3 in a matter of minutes. She will probably be 3 years old by the time I get through writing this post. Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday I was pregnant with her and feeling like I wanted to just wake up from a bad dream. Today, she is turning into a sweet little girl. Where do I even start? I guess I'll start with a word of thanksgiving that God has blessed me with such a treasure. I still don't understand why He would choose me to care for a child like Kaydence Grace. I'm really unworthy of any blessings, yet He chose me for her and her for me. She melts me every single day. You see, I'm still the same sinner I was when I started this blog. I'm not perfect, but He washes away my sins anyway. I'm so thankful. The sins chang

We are halfway done!

I cannot believe we are halfway done with this journey here in Baltimore! I do feel like we are making some gains here and I am thankful God placed Kennedy Krieger Institute in our life. First of all, I only wish we could have started this a few years ago because when I am on the CMV mommies page on Facebook, I see what other kids with her same symptoms and diagnoses can do versus what Super K has not yet accomplished. "But Wendy, you shouldn't make comparisons!" Yet all parents do. Some days I think maybe I have let her down by not being pushier about her therapy, but then again this has been uncharted territory every single minute of her life. No two CMV kids are alike in their ailments because each brain is affected differently. Once again I am so thankful we are at Our Children's House. It is a nice walk to and from therapy and the weather has been pretty amazing. When we got here it was Texas hot and then it cooled off really low, only to level off to really nic
